Parish Council Meetings

Stogumber Parish Council normally meets every second month (May, July, September, November, January and March), usually on the evening of the second Thursday of the month, at 7.30pm in the Village Hall.

For details of meetings before the 2023/2024 year, please contact the Clerk on [email protected].

Meeting dates and agendas are published on the Parish Council noticeboards (in the churchyard, at the corner of Sawpits, and in Capton) and this page of the website at least three clear working days before the meeting.

The Parish Council also holds site meetings to consider planning applications and information about these is also published on the noticeboards and website.

The Annual Parish Meeting is usually held in April or May and the Annual Meeting of the Parish Council is held in May.

Parish Council meetings have a clear purpose, to make decision, and are not just a forum for debate. Every Parish Council meeting is open to the public, and there is always an opportunity for members of the public to speak on any matter listed on the agenda.

The full Parish Council meetings are usually also attended by Councillors of Somerset Council.

It is the Chairman’s responsibility to ensure that effective and lawful decisions are made. Decisions are taken by a vote.

The draft minutes of a formal meeting are published within one month of the meeting. The minutes of a meeting remain a DRAFT version until approved by the Council at the following meeting.
